The formulation of the vision - strategic goal, was based on the characteristics of the intervention area of the Sustainable Urban Development Strategy, as well as the developmental directions from the framework of spatial and development planning for the development and the dynamics of the intervention area.

The vision for the Sustainable Urban Development Strategy intervention area is:

"The Revitalization of the Urban Center of Chania in terms of sustainability - social cohesion/ REvitalizing the COre for DEvelopment - RECODE"

The revitalization is being achieved by recoding the characteristics and functions of the Urban Center of Chania in terms of sustainability and social cohesion, in order to confront the identified problems / needs and to utilize opportunities arising from the characteristics of the intervention area, taking into account the local spatial and developmental directions.

Through this recoding, compositions and synergies of individual elements and functions emerge, which allow the promotion and projection of the complex image of culture in accordance with the environment and innovation for the overall development of the Urban Center of Chania.

A first typical example of project within RE.CO.DE. strategy is the "green culture and tourism network " which, in parallel with the combined promotion of culture with the environment in sights within the network, strengthens the internal cohesion of and especially the functional connection of the Old Town and the coastal front as well as the Center (where the majority of businesses and visitors are gathering) with Halepa, (where the Archaeological Museum of Chania and the House - Museum of Eleftherios Venizelos are located)

A second typical example of project within RE.CO.DE. strategy, is the combination of problems and needs related to environmental-climatic challenges (e.g. special requirements for bioclimatic shielding of the built environment due to the significant number of elements of the historical-cultural environment) with the possibilities of developing innovations (due to the existence of Universities and Universities in the intervention area).

The main goal of the revitalization of the intervention area of the Sustainable Urban Development Strategy through the recoding of characteristics and functions of the Urban Center of Chania in terms of sustainability and social cohesion, is to promote the intervention area of the Strategy of Sustainable Urban Development as:

• A competitive center of economic development, in terms of scope, variety and specialization of activities.
• A center of high-level services, core of tourist - cultural and educational activities with a development pole in the Old Town and the utilization of the comparative advantages of the wider area
• A quality housing area through interventions aiming at social cohesion and the improvement of the urban environment.
